Data corruption is the accidental modification of a file or the losing of info which usually occurs during reading or writing. The reason may be hardware or software failure, and because of this, a file may become partially or fully corrupted, so it will no longer function correctly because its bits shall be scrambled or lacking. An image file, for example, will no longer present an authentic image, but a random mix of colors, an archive will be impossible to unpack since its content will be unreadable, and so on. If this kind of an issue appears and it's not found by the system or by an administrator, the data will be corrupted silently and when this happens on a drive that is a part of a RAID array where the info is synchronized between various drives, the corrupted file shall be copied on all the other drives and the damage will be long term. A number of popular file systems either don't feature real-time checks or don't have high quality ones which will detect a problem before the damage is done, so silent data corruption is a rather common issue on web hosting servers where substantial amounts of data are stored.

No Data Corruption & Data Integrity in Shared Hosting

We warrant the integrity of the info uploaded in each shared hosting account that is generated on our cloud platform because we use the advanced ZFS file system. The aforementioned is the only one that was designed to prevent silent data corruption through a unique checksum for each file. We'll store your information on multiple SSD drives which work in a RAID, so the exact same files will be available on several places simultaneously. ZFS checks the digital fingerprint of all of the files on all drives in real time and if the checksum of any file is different from what it should be, the file system swaps that file with an undamaged copy from a different drive in the RAID. There's no other file system which uses checksums, so it is easy for data to get silently damaged and the bad file to be reproduced on all drives with time, but since this can never happen on a server using ZFS, you won't have to concern yourself with the integrity of your data.

No Data Corruption & Data Integrity in Semi-dedicated Servers

If you obtain one of our semi-dedicated server plans, you won't need to worry about silent data corruption as we use ZFS - a high level file system that keeps track of all of the files in real time. Every time you upload a file to your web hosting account, ZFS will assign a unique digital fingerprint to it - the so-called checksum. This file will be synchronized between a number of SSD drives for redundancy, so if a drive fails, the other ones will take over. ZFS compares the checksum of all copies on the different drives and in case it detects a damaged copy, it replaces it with a healthy one from a different drive. This is done right away, so there will be no danger for any part of your content at any time. By comparison, all of the other file systems execute checks only after a system failure, but since they don't use anything similar to the checksums which ZFS uses, they cannot detect silently corrupted files, so a corrupted copy can be replicated on the rest of the drives as well and you could lose critical info. As this is not the case with ZFS, we can warrant the integrity of each file you upload no matter what.
